Help using Bill Status
Please print and read these instructions.
-
First, READ this page to effectively use the bill status program.
-
To search for a bill by number:
-
House Bills: For two
number bills enter the house and bill number followed by a a space. i.e.
HB50[space].
-
For three number house bills enter HB123[space].
-
For four number house bills enter HB1105[space].
-
Senate Bills: Enter SB
and one space. e.g. SB200[space].
-
(Note: The reason for the differences is the formatting of the reports
produced)
-
(Note: You must also use these rules when making global report requests)
-
You may simply use a number such as 50. If so, you will not only receive
a status of HB 50 but also all other bills with 50 in the number such as
250, etc. This is an overbroad search but is more effective and error free
than a exact search.
-
Global Reports:
-
To get a report on several
bills at the same time, simply type the list of bills you want as follows:
-
hb50[space],sb2006[space],hb46[space],hb126[space] etc
-
You may search by using any of the following:
-
Bill Number: Enter number only, i.e. 50 or HB 50 (HB50[space]).
-
Draft Request: Enter draft request number.
-
IntroDate: Enter date introducted as 01/10/97. No spaces before
or after the date.
-
Disposition: Enter disposition desires to search. i.e. ACT for a
list of all active bills.
-
ShortTitle: Search for a term in the short title. i.e. city.
-
Committee: Search for a committee name. i.e. local. Using "Local"
will show all bills in the Local and Private Legislation Committee. You
may find a list of House committees listed here
and a list of senate committes listed here.
-
Principle Author: Enter the LAST name of the Senator or Representative
or the term "Governor" for the Author of bills. You can browse a list of
the Senators
or Represenatives.
-
Additional Authors: Enter additional author LAST name.
-
Actions: Enter a term in the actions you are searching for. This
is also used to search for actions on a particular day. For example, to
see all bills with actions on a particular day search for the date. i.e.
01/20/97.
-
There are two search fields so you can use any combination of two of the
above items to limit your search or to do statistical searches.
-
The search result has a predefined maximum limit of hits so some searches
must be limited. For example, if you search for DIE in disposition you
will receive a message that the maximum number of hits was received and
you will be required to limit you request by, for evample, using die and
a date or author.
-
It is best to use a single term when searching. i.e. If you are searching
for Eminent Domain only use eminent or domain not eminent domain. This
will eliminate spacing problems and increase the acruary of your search.
